Position Overview

Provides leadership in administering and coordinating activities of the organization ECCD/Day Care Center including managing the day center budget, working closely with the Associate Director for GEP to develop policies for the Center, ensuring the appropriateness of program activities according to age and development levels of children; staff orientation, supervision and evaluation; referrals of parents to support staff /agencies and resource development activities as will be required. The ECCD/Day care manager reports directly to the Associate Director for GEP.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Oversees the daily operation of the ECCD/Day Care center and serves as the Center Head Teacher for the enrolled children in the day program; supervises, orients, schedules and evaluates child care staff and teachers.

  2. Assures that recipients of child care services meet the enrollment criteria for continued eligibility and collaborates with the Associate Director regarding participants eligibility, selection, enrollment, medical issues and any other special cases

  3. Maintains Child Care Center program in a manner that meets set conventional requirements including sanitation, safety, fire and other regulations ensuring the facility is a safe and a fun place for children to learn and live providing best possible experience

  4. In collaboration with the Associate Director, prepares a long term plan for sustaining child care services and assesses the feasibility for expansion of on-campus child care services in line with the emerging dynamics

  5. Develops both long- and short-term lesson plans based on the curriculum and philosophy/values of the organization

  6. Develops educational programs that adhere to child care standards, plan lessons for children and schedule activities that coordinate with lesson plans as well as recreational activities

  7. Responsible for supervising children and developing activities that they will both enjoy and learn from

  8. Collaborates with the Associate Director to find and enroll in formal schools the children graduating from the program.

  9. Advocates for center needs through the Associate Director to potential supporters/partners and to the senior management

  10. Prepares, manages and monitors the center budget; administers funds for activities

  11. Under supervision of the Associate Director, develops and revises center policies, procedures and handbooks.

  12. Ensures that all children have proper paperwork on file, including their health information, allergies, details of any medical conditions they suffer from and authorization from the parents stating if a child can be taken a photo or video recorded

  13. Provides information and support to families whose children are in care of the center including referrals to support agencies and parenting/family counseling resources

  14. Serves as the liaison with parents, other programs staff, visitors, ministry staff and partners/donors. Compiles data and generates reports.

  15. Organizes program evaluation activities to meet the organization set services delivery standards and well as state requirements

  16. She maintains a record of that growth and keeps parents up to date on the same including needs.

  17. Responsible for setting up own classroom to reflect the lessons she is currently teaching.

18.Must always report any suspected cases of child abuse to the Associate Director. The she must keep records of any reported abuse and the response of the investigator.

19.Undertakes other responsibilities/duties not outlined above which are commensurate with a role of this nature in the humanitarian sector and which have been discussed and agreed between the line manager/superiors and the post holder.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education or Special Education.

· At least 3 year of qualifying teaching experience in a certified child care center or comparable group care program in the care of preschool age children.

· At least one year of training and/or experience in management and supervision of adults.

· Knowledge of local and national regulations and standards that apply day care centers/ECE/ECCD

· Knowledge in curriculum development and various teaching methods

· effective program management techniques including program reporting and evaluation

· current early childhood education trends and quality child care issues

· principles and techniques of staff management and supervision

· Ability to develop policies and establish procedures; investigate, analyze and resolve a variety of problems;

· Provide information and support to staff and parents; develop and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups within and outside the center; communicate effectively both in oral and written form.

· Knowledge in administration of first aid

· The individual must be a self-starter who has the ability to make good judgments for the sake of the center, and who is reliable and trustworthy

· She is an effective communicator, as she’ll be interacting with both parents and children on a daily basis. must be kind, patient and loving, must be a strong leader,

· Must have the ability to manage a diverse group of children and staff

· Ability withstand stressful situations that may arise as a result of challenging work environment (interaction with children who have under gone very painful situations)
