Over the past 16 years, FilmAid has served displaced populations and their host communities in Kenya, Tanzania, Macedonia, Afghanistan, US Gulf Coast, Haiti and the Thai/Myanmar border.

FilmAid designs and implements communications initiatives on critical health, protection and environmental issues. FilmAid’s Theory-Of-Change is based on the integration of access, creativity and participation, which drive individual and community change, contributing to positive social impact. Underpinning this approach is collaboration; working together is fundamental to achieving change. FilmAid partners with communities, creators, NGOs, Governments, and the private sector to ensure a collaborative approach to this end.

Specific Tasks:

  • The head of the technical department and in charge of the technical team.
  • In charge of the equipment and the equipment list and testing before production.
  • After reading the script, the DOP should meet with the director to discuss the visual style of the film.
  • Create the desired look using lighting, framing, camera movement and work closely with the director and crew.
  • Conduct and document recce; research, location scouting, casting and rehearsals.
  • Should be able to advise the director on a suitable composition and use of lighting, shadow and fill.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or a diploma in film, journalism or in any other relevant field.
  • Have knowledge of film-specific equipment and techniques such as cameras, lights, reflectors etc. This includes both set up and operation.
  • Should have excellent communication skills and listening ability
  • Should be able to work effectively under pressure
  • Ability to collaborate with the film director and get a good grasp of the director’s artistic vision for the final product.
  • Should be flexible and possess problem-solving skills to handle the entire production.
  • Should have a keen eye for detail and be able to think fast so as to inform decisions.
  • Experience working in a hardship area will be an added advantage.
